Research on the production of biochar from PET plastic waste
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phạm Trung Kiên from the Faculty of Materials Technology, along with a research team led by PhD candidate Bùi Thị Thảo Nguyên and students from the Materials Technology Department, has been investigating the potential of using PET plastic waste as biochar material, with a focus on its application in fuel pellets.

Research Team Representative Receiving Award
This study opens up possibilities for repurposing carbon-rich plastic waste into biochar. At the 14th Science and Technology Conference, the research achieved 3rd prize, a source of pride and motivation for the team, encouraging students to actively engage in scientific research.

Certificate of Achievement for 3rd Prize
The research team is now extending their efforts to utilize PET plastic waste as a student research project and is expanding their study to include other types of plastic waste, such as PIR, combined with carbon-containing agricultural biomass by-products, aiming to add value under the circular economy model.
